Palestinians today even within the borders of Israel/Palestine fall into different categories:

• Identifying and acting on opportunities to support the implementation of  advocacy priorities through interaction with European institutions in Brussels.
• Monitoring and influencing policy developments at the EU level;
• Undertaking research and analysis on relevant EU policies and identifying opportunities;
• Drafting updates, briefing notes, policy positions and talking points on relevant EU processes;
• Supporting the organisation of advocacy events;

In the simplest terms, advocacy is the process of speaking out for something, such as a cause or a policy. The English word is actually derived from the Latin term “vocare” (“to call”). So with the prefix “ad” (which means “for” or “towards”), advocacy becomes “calling for”. This definition clearly shows that advocacy is active, not passive.

The decades-long crisis in Palestine has led to a deteriorating humanitarian situation. Palestinians live in an increasingly coercive environment compounded by the coronavirus pandemic. In the West Bank, as Israeli settlement activity continues to increase, Palestinians are prevented from developing adequate housing and lack access to basic services. In the Gaza Strip, recurrent clashes, an ongoing blockade and internal divides have resulted in a desperate situation for the population.

In 2019, for the first time since national greenhouse gas emissions have been measured, China’s annual emissions exceeded those of all developed countries combined. China’s emissions were less than a quarter of developed country emissions in 1990, but over the past three decades have more than tripled, reaching over 14 gigatons of CO2-equivalent in 2019.
