PUBLIC USE OF ONLINE AND SOCIAL MEDIA IN SOME EU MEMBER STATES

Back in March 2013, Ipsos Public Affairs conducted a survey covering 24 countries around the world to determine their use of the Internet and social media for public discourse on public policy, social and political issues. Their research revealed three key segments of online activity/behavior:

The term profession essentially means a generic category of a particular type of occupation, usually one that involves knowledge, a service and an extended period of education, training and work experience with an experienced practitioner that has been practicing for a number of years. Professionalization is the process by which an occupation seeks to promote itself or is promoted by external agents into a professional occupation. Professionalization is about movement towards becoming a profession.

4 REASONS TO JOIN AALEP's COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE (CoP)

While there are communities of practice for engineers, marketers, manufacturing specialists, geologists, architects, lawyers and countless other professionals, there was an absence of a Community of Practice (CoP) for practitioners within the broad field of public policy advocacy, government relations and public affairs. Hence the decision by AALEP to rectify this situation and our launch of a Community of Practice specifically for people who are involved in our profession.

Communities of Practice require a number of key roles to be filled. These need not necessarily be a single individual working full time. They are revolving roles much like everyone taking turn at being a scribe at business meetings.

Champion: The Champion ensures support at the highest level, communicates the purpose, promotes the community and insures impact.

Mission: The mission of AALEP’s Public Policy Advocacy (PPA) Community of Practice, hereafter referred to as the 'PPA Community of Practice' is to provide an environment for people working in the field of public policy advocacy (PPA) for the exchange of ideas, best practices, and business opportunities through a variety of learning, communication, and networking settings.

THE EXPERT PRACTITIONER IN PUBLIC POLICY ADVOCACY

Generally speaking an expert is someone widely recognized as a reliable source of technique or skill whose faculty for judging or deciding rightly, justly, or wisely, is accorded authority and status by peers or the public in a specific well-distinguished domain. An expert, more generally is a person with extensive knowledge or ability based on research, experience, or occupation in a particular area of study. Experts are called in for advice on their respective subject, but they do not always agree on the particulars of a field of study.

WHAT NEXT FOR UKRAINE AND CRISIS MANAGEMENT

Over the years, the European Union’s relationship with Ukraine has been undermined by a split on both sides. On the European side, some wanted a reform-minded, western leaning Ukraine, either as a good thing in itself, or in order to eventually transform or at least contain Russia. Others, meanwhile, were less interested in Ukraine and might even have been secretly relieved to see Ukraine stagnate because it kept the thorny question of enlargement off the table. On the Ukrainian side, some saw their future lying in Europe, while others wanted to move closer to Russia.
