The rapid spread of the COVID-19 presents a severe test for democracies and for the European Union as an institution. And so far, it has been every nation for itself. For the European Union and the new team at its executive arm, the European Commission, led by Ursula von der Leyen, this pandemic is a challenge to her intention to have a “geopolitical commission. This is a major test for the European Union, with the virus piled on top of existing crises over migration and rule of law.

1. More people will be ordering online,
2. More people will be working from home
3. More people will get their food delivered
4. More people will rely on takeaway meals.
5. Sports, entertainment and other industries whose models depend upon large crowds will be negatively impacted.
6. The tourism industry (airlines, cruise ships, trains, etc) will see usage decline. They will have to act to restore confidence that measures have been taken to ensure they are safe and clean.

Stay at home orders require residents to stay indoors except for certain essential activities, which include buying food and seeking medical treatment. The orders do not completely bar people from leaving their homes, and  encourage residents to take walks — provided they stay at least six feet away from anyone not in their household — and go to grocery stores
