GLOBAL RENEWABLE ENERGY AND CONSERVATION TRUST (GRECT)

Created in 2006 by HRH Prince Laurent of Belgium the Global Renewable Energy and Conservation Trust (GRECT) of which HRH Prince Laurent is Administrator and President of the Board of Directors is located at the European Renewable Energy House. The European Renewable Energy House is a showcase of the latest technology regarding energy efficiency. In April 2007 HRH Prince Laurent received  the « National Global Energy Award » for the creation and promotion of this private foundation.

PUBLIC POLICY ADVOCACY IN THE EUROPEAN RENEWABLE SECTOR: THE EUROPEAN ENERGY HOUSE SHOWCASE

In 2000, several European renewable energy associations decided to share a common office in order to encourage synergies, and thus the Renewable Energy House concept was born. The number of staff in the house grew rapidly, which led to the original premises rapidly becoming too small, a sustainable energy showcase was set up, Rue d'Arlon 63-65, in the heart of Europe's capital.

OVERVIEW OF THE EUROPEAN INTEREST REPRESENTATION LANDSCAPE

This overview is more a ‘guesstimate’meaning that it was made without using adequate or complete information. It is based on registered entities at EU level in the Transparency Register as well as information collected through Internet and experience of the Brussels scene. Nevertheless it provides some elements to measure the size of the European interest representation sector.

TPN- TRANSATLANTIC POLICY NETWORK

The Transatlantic Policy Network was launched in 1992 to promote the closest possible economic and political relations between the US and Europe. TPN’s immediate priority is to strongly encourage the US and the European Union to agree a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). TPN has argued the case for progress towards transatlantic free trade and a close political partnership for nearly 20 years.

K4I FORUM OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

The Knowledge4Innovation Forum of the European Parliament is an open, independent, non-profit innovation platform with a wide variety of stakeholders including small and large companies, universities and research centers, regions and cities, trade organisations and think tanks. The Forum brings together actors with different backgrounds and expertise with the common objective of making topics relevant to Europe’s innovation performance a top priority in EU policy making.

MEP-Industry Forums are groups that invove MEPs from different parties meeting with interest representatives from a respective sector. They facilitate broad sectoral interest representation during conferences and lunch debates that are organized and where business people talk about the issues of concern to them in their sector. They play a very useful role in that they support MEPs in their efforts to shape policy and regulations by facilitating and strengthening the exchange of information. These forums are important because the sectors represented create jobs in Europe.
