SERBIA ON TOP OF THE LIST FOR EU ENLARGEMENT IN WESTERN BALKANS

The first EU-Serbia Intergovernmental conference held in Brussels on 21 January 2014 marked the official opening of accession negotiations between the EU and Serbia. A the technical level, the negotiations have been in progress since September 2013.

12 KEY POINTS FOR MAKING EU FREE TRADE AGREEMENTS MORE EFFECTIVE

  1. Business needs to be at the forefront of an efficient and ambitious EU trade policy with the primary objective of improving conditions to invest and trade.
  2. The EU must stay focused with the primary objective of providing EU companies and particularly SMEs with new and better business opportunities in third markets.
  3. Necessary resources need to be allocated to DG Trade to accomplish all required tasks in an effective manner.

  2. Commitment by a number of Member States to offer immediate assistance to strengthen the protection of Bulgaria's border with Turkey, and continue support to other frontline States.
  3. Before the end of the year, full capacity for rapid reaction of the European Border and Coast Guard, now signed into law.

EU REFORM ABSENT OF THE BRATISLAVA ROADMAP

It is crucial for the EU to undertake some kind of reform to meet citizen demand, especially when it comes to specific policies. There are some reforms that could be implemented that would increase support among many groups throughout the EU. People care deeply about who governs them. But they are also concerned about procedural aspects.
