The Republican Party presidential primaries and caucuses are indirect elections in which voters cast ballots for a slate of delegates to the 2016 Republican National Convention. There are 2,470 delegates. To be a party nominee, a candidate must have 50 percent plus 1 of the delegates- 1,236 delegates- to win.
