- Canada- Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), negotiations ended on 26 September 2014. There are three stages towards the deal’s ratification and coming into force: The Council makes its decision on a consensus basis. Every country needs to sign on. After the European Council gives its approval, members of the European Parliament will vote in late 2016 or early 2017 and all Member States will go through national ratification procedures. Legal opinions advanced by the Commission suggest that most of the Agreement- perhaps as much as 95 per cent falls comfortably within the EU’s jurisdiction and could be provisionally applied.

The Commission is seeking to clarify which of the Agreement’s provision are within the EU’s exclusive competence and which must be approved by Member States. Project timeline of activities: 2017- FTA will be initialed and signed by both Singapore an the EU. 2017/2018- FTA will be presented to the European Parliament for ratification. 2018/2019- FTA enters into force.
