PUBLIC POLICY ADVOCACY OF THE EUROPEAN INTERNET SERVICES PROVIDERS ASSOCIATION (EUROISPA)

EuroISPA is a pan European association of European Internet Services Providers Associations (ISPAs). It is the world’s largest association of Internet Services Providers (ISPs), representing over 1800 ISPs across the EU and EFTA countries – including ISPs from Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Romania and the UK. The association was established in 1997 to represent the European ISP industry on EU policy and legislative issues and to facilitate the exchange of best-practices between national ISP associations. Its secretariat is located in Brussels.

EuroISPA is recognised as the voice of the EU ISP industry and is the largest ‘umbrella’ association of Internet Services Providers in the world. The reason for EuroISPA’s success to date is doubtlessly that it reflects the views of ISPs of all sizes from across its member base.

Mission Statement

EuroISPA was established to achieve several important objectives:

  • To protect and promote the interests of Europe as a whole within the global Internet, securing a premier position for Europe in the key industry of the new Millennium.
  • To help deliver the benefits of this new technology of liberation and empowerment to individuals, while at the same time, meeting the legitimate concerns of parents and others responsible for the more vulnerable members of society.
  • To encourage the development of a free and open telecommunications market, something of great benefit to society as a whole, but essential to the healthy development of the Internet.
  • To promote the interests of our members and provide common services to them where these cannot be received elsewhere.

EuroISPA Council

The Council members are ISP associations from EU Member States. EuroISPA is managed by its members. Each member appoints a representative to the EuroISPA Council. This body meets on a regular basis each quarter and in special sessions, as required by the members, in order to formally discuss policy, matters of importance to the EU Internet industry and the administration of the organisation. Meanwhile, informal, continuous discussion between the members ensures that EuroISPA is a close-knit organisation, taking advantage of the wealth of expertise and experience contained therein.

Each year, the Council appoints each a group of Officers – a President, one or more Vice President(s) and a Treasurer – who are tasked with fulfilling important duties for the continued functioning of the association.
