AALEP: OUR VISION, MISSION, GOALS AND STANDARD PRINCIPLES

Public Policy Advocacy is any effort to in influence public policy by providing information, speaking to decision makers, demonstrating benefits for policy change and other such activities that encourage the adoption of the desired policy change. Public Policy Advocacy requires organization, information, preparation and communication. Public Policy Advocates research and analyze proposed laws, rules, policies or regulations; monitor developments; attend hearings; furnish periodic updates; educate policymakers, staff, and colleagues, and work with other interested parties. Effective Public Policy Advocates build healthy relationships, respect different perspectives, and manage the exposure and expectations of delicate, complex political process.

As a multi-purpose organization, AALEP places an emphasis on educational, civic, and professional development objectives. Some of these include providing mentoring opportunities for professionals seeking to learn more about governmental advocacy; developing and encouraging high standards of service and conduct by professionals engaged in the business; providing opportunities for exchange of experience and opinions through discussion and publications; and promoting communication and understanding on the role of those engaged in the profession.

Public Policy  Advocacy will be seen a trusted and honourable profession. Further improvement in the way Public Policy Advocacy is conducted and the reputation of the profession is in the hands of Public Policy Advocates themselves.

OUR MISSION 

To enhance the public perception and understanding of the Public Policy Advocacy profession throughout the European Union , while providing opportunities to increase professionalism, integrity and ethical standards.

OUR GOALS

• Raise the ethical standards of the profession through self-regulation, participation in the regulatory process, legislation and continuing education programs.
• Address and represent the public policy advocacy community’s concerns and issues before the EU institutions.
• Develop a recognized education process for association members to elevate their skills and status.
• Serve as a responsive and credible corporate referral source for association members.
• Increase positive awareness of the Public Policy Advocacy profession

OUR STANDARD PRINCIPLES

AALEP offers the following guiding principles in its quest to elevate the profession and assist its members in representing our profession well and conducting business in a manner consistent with these principles.

When AALEP members purposefully and diligently represent client interests, they :

• Adhere to the highest ethical standards of honesty and integrity when conducting business with government institutions, fully complying with laws, regulations and rules pertaining to our profession.
• Create relationships with and for their clients based on candor and mutual respect, treating both allies and adversaries with respect and courtesy.
• Avoid conflicts of interest and fully inform clients or potential clients when an actual or potential conflict arises.
• Respect client confidentiality.
