PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCY PROFILE FOR GR PRACTITIONERS REQUIRED

Purpose

Practice area at the professional level is a generally recognised or distinctive area of knowledge and expertise developed by a GR Practitioner by virtue of the path of education, training and experience followed.

To meet the minimum standard of competence a person must demonstrate that he/she is able to practice competently according to the standard expected of a reasonable GR Practitioner. The extent to which the person is able to perform certain elements in GR practice area must be taken into account in assessing whether or not he/she meets the overall standard.

A professionally or occupationally competent person has the attributes necessary to perform the activities within the profession or occupation to the standards expected in independent employment or practice. The professional competency profile records the elements of competency necessary for competent performance that the professional is expected to be able to demonstrate in a holistic way. Professional competence can be described using a set of attributes, for example, at the professional level, the ability to take responsibility in a real-life situation is essential.

The professional competency profile is not prescriptive in detail but rather reflects the essential elements that would be present in competency standards. The professional competency profile does not specify performance indicators or how it should be interpreted in assessing evidence of competence from different areas of practice or for different types of work.

Demonstration of competence may take place in different areas of GR practice and different types of work. Competence statements are therefore discipline-independent. Competence statements accommodate different types of work,  The competence statements include the personal attributes needed for competent performance irrespective of specific local requirements: The professional competency profiles are stated generically and are applicable to all GR disciplines.
