EUROPEAN LOW FARES AIRLINE ASSOCIATION (ELFAA)
The European Low Fares Airline Association (ELFAA) represents the fastest-growing European airline sector. In 2014 ELFAA members carried 236 million passengers (50% of scheduled intra-European traffic) a a year-on-year increase of 9.3%, whilst also strengthening its workforce by 6.7% to 33,697.
ELFAA’s primary objective is to ensure that European policy and legislation promote free and equal competition to enable the continued growth and development of low fares into the future, thereby allowing a greater number of people to travel by air.
ELFAA members look forward to the forthcoming Commission Strategy on the competitiveness of the aviation industry. In particular they hope to see a firm commitment to meaningful implementation of the urgently-needed Single European Sky and acknowledgement that taxation of aviation is regressive and serves to impede its successful development. They also urge Member States to resist the lure of introducing additional taxation on aviation, which can hit consumers in the pocket and have a detrimental effect on airlines’ balance sheets – and hence Europe’s economic outlook.
