NEW EU COMMISSIONERS WELCOME
The figures here below are estimates and have been rounded.
On assuming office, a Commissioner is entitled to an installation allowance of two months'basic salary which equates to about € 40,000 and of course the costs of travel to Brussels and moving expenses are fully reimbursed.
The current basic monthly salary of a Commisioner is € 20,000 or € 240,000 per year (In April 2013 the Commissioners accepted a so-called 25% solidarity cut of their salary)
In addition, a Commissioner is entitled to a residence allowance of 15% of the basic salary or € 3,100. He/she is also entitled to a monthly allowance for representation expenses of € 600 or € 7,200 per year.

- Basic Salary: €240,000
- Residence Allowance: € 3,100 (15% of basic salary)
- Family Allowance: € 170 + 2% of basic salary. For each child € 375 and additional education allowance € 250

By comparison, the US. President receives an annual salary of $ 400,000 (€ 292,000) + $ 50,000 expenses (€ 36,000), a U.S. Senator’s annual salary is $ 174,000 (€ 127,000) and the combined ministerial and parliamentary salary of the Prime Minister of the UK is £142,500 (€ 174,000) at April 2013. This figure includes the parliamentary salary of £66,396.
