Having nationals on the staff of the EU institutions is important for any member state as a channel of influence to the EU. The European Parliament counts 6,690 staff persons. The following is the breakdown by nationality:

1. Belgium 948 persons (14% of total)
2. France 771 persons (12% of total)
3. Italy 616 persons (9%) of total)
4. Germany 496 persons (7.4% of total)
5. Spain 466 persons (7% of total)
6. United Kingdom 301 persons (5% of total)
7. Poland 267 persons (4% of total)
8. Portugal 265 persons (4% of total)
9. Greece 258 persons ( 3.8% of total)
10. Finland 193 persons (2.8%)
