AALEP'S ROLE IN EU MONITORING AND INTELLIGENCE GATHERING

AALEP Consulting services are based on a four-step approach that includes 1. Intelligence Gathering 2. Analysis 3. Strategic Planning and 4. Advocacy. In order to manage policy change effectively, accurate and timely predictive intelligence is a necessity. Through our extensive network of contacts with the EU institutions, we are able to follow what’s going on first hand, providing monitoring and intelligence gathering for clients eager to stay ahead of EU legislation and policy developments. The early warnings we provide enable a prompt response to new opportunities and adverse legislative change. We supply the time and information needed for adapting to new conditions or managing change through intervention in the policy making process.

The Brussels context is challenging, and is of considerable complexity, necessitating insight, understanding, stamina and patience.

1. Monitoring and Intelligence Gathering

AALEP continuously liaises with the policy-makers to track the ever-evolving EU political landscape, tracking relevant issues. We are in regular contact with key Commission officials and MEPs to ensure that any relevant intelligence is received as early as possible for our clients. We also attend Parliamentary committees, Intergroups, Commission hearings and conferences. We monitor all relevant periodicals and websites to provide our clients with an analysis and topical discussions surrounding their situation. Our clients can decide the way in which they receive all relevant information. AALEP provides a number of different options.

These include:

  • Email alerts to new developments in key areas
  • Parliamentary and ad hoc meeting reports in a format tailored to clients’ needs
  • Issue Tracker with short description of latest developments and suggested action to be taken (weekly, fortnightly or monthly) to complement the email alerts
  • Regular status table indicating the stage key issues have reached
  • Background briefings on relevant issues when they are required

2. Analysis. AALEP evaluates the EU landscape to establish the potential impact on clients' sector and thereafter determines what their  current priorities in the political arena are.

3.Strategic planning. AALEP creates strategies from these focal points to define key messages and produces the tools for delivering appropriate responses.

4. Advocacy. AALEP translates these strategies into action by issuing position papers, communicating important information , engaging in advocacy activities and connecting policy-makers with relevant resources and experts.
