AALEP APPOINTS DISTINGUISHED NEW SECRETARY GENERAL
AALEP has appointed Mr. George Stavri as Secretary General of the Association. George, a native of Cyprus, born in 1961 completed all his academic studies at Stanford University in multiple degrees, i.e. Economics (W/Honors), Political Science (W/Honors) and International Trade and Finance. While at Stanford, George read Political Science with Dr. Condoleezza Rice, former U.S. Secretary of State and was in the same class as H.R.H. Prince Philippe of Belgium. In further academic programmes, George focused on Islamic Finance with the Durham Islamic Finance Programme in the United Kingdom and he is in an advanced stage currently in his doctoral work focusing his research and thesis on "US/EU Foreign Policies in the South Esatern Mediterranean, Middle East and the Balkans to 2020: Perfect Vision or Perfect Miss?"
George is also a graduate of the Institute of Federalism at the Univefrsity of Fribourg, Switzerland, the Venise Academy of Human Rights and the EU Laws Institute of King's College in the United Kingdom among others.
George has established his own international management and political consultancy firm, "Stanford Associates" through which he caters to the needs of firms, NGOs (UNDP/USAID etc.), governments (Cyprus Government, British High Commission in Cyprus etc), religious organizations and political figures in the wider Middle East and the Mediterranean.
Furthermore, he is the President of the newly-formed movement of "One Cyprus", an initiative that aspires to make the ongoing political process in pursuit of a final and lasting peace in Cyprus more participatory, engaging more the common man/woman and away from party politics.
George teaches regularly at known Universities and colleges internationally on political and economic topics and he contributes periodically to known international journals. He is also an accomplished fencing athletes and instructor and took part in the 1988 Seoul Olympic Game.
