THE SLAUGHTER IN GAZA MUST END !!!!

The scenes of desolation and destruction, whole streets reduced to piles of broken rubble, images of torn bodies, especially of young children and babies, demand immediate intervention of  the international community to end this slaughter.

Since July 8 when the current violence erupted 1736 Palestinians have been killed, 8900 have been injured. 70 % - 80% of the Palestinian casualties are civilians. Unicef reports 296 child death – 203 children under the age of 12.

A war that was billed as an operation to halt Hamas rocket fire seems no closer to resolution than when it started three weeks ago but in the meantime the death toll keeps going up and this is unbearable !!!

Israel’s ongoing deadly offensive in Gaza is disastrous, both in political terms, which is to say the situation cannot conceivably, certainly in the short run, lead to any positive results, to an improvement in the lives of either Israelis or Palestinians, and it’s disastrous in humanitarian terms. The slaughter of large number of wholly innocent people is placing yet more barriers of blood in the way of a negotiated agreement which is the only alternative to the occupation and endless oppression of the Palestinian people. Israel must agree to an immediate cease-fire, and start negotiating in good faith for the end of occupation and settlements, through a just peace agreement.
