The AALEP Online Lobbying Documents Repository is a promotional and educational tool for practitioners and the general public. It seeks to inform users about developments in the field of public policy advocacy, public affairs, lobbying and interest representation and efforts to coordinate and strengthen system-wide approaches in this field.  It is important to make such information widely accessible about issues and activities, and the various tools, documents and materials on the subject.

The AALEP Online Lobbying Document Repository contains:

  • Official documents and publications– lobbying related documents and publications.
  • Lobbying guidance and policy material – official and unofficial published documents on lobbying  resolutions, reports, norms and standards, guidance materials, training materials and programming, lessons learned and evaluation documents.

Reference Library: The AALEP Reference Library provides a repository to hold reference materials that should be used in the field of public policy advocacy, public affairs, lobbying and interest representation. Reference materials held may be obtained from a variety of sources, including:

  • Supra-national Organisations e.g. OECD, Council of Europe, European Institutions, Transparency International etc.
  • Professional Lobbyists' Associations at EU, national, and global level.
  • Industry communities, forums or networks
  • Standard templates
  • Shared Best Parctices.

Types of Standards

  1. Legal and Regulatory Obligations: Standards mandated by law which practitioners must comply with.
  2. Ethical Standards: Standards which practitioners must adhere to in the conduct of their activities e.g. codes of conduct
  3. Professional Standards: Professional standards and guidelines for benchmarking success in the field. They can be applied to personal development programmes at individual or institutional level to improve quality and recognise excellence. Dimensions of professional practice: areas of activity undertaken by practitioners, core knowledge needed to carry out those activities at the appropriate level, and professional values that individuals performing these activities should exemplify.
  4. Industry Standards: These Standards are established by professional lobbyists' associations and are then selected by practitioners for adoption. Such standards offer potential for inter-operation and sharing across practitioners.
  5. Organisation Standards: These standards are set within the organisation and are best on business apiration (e.g. selection of standard applications).
