SOARING U.S. UNEMPLOYMENT

More than 33 million jobless Americans have now made claims in the past seven weeks. The unemployment rate soared to 14.7% in April.

  3. Education and health services: 2.5 million
  4. Professional and business services: 2.1 million
  5. Retail trade: 2.1 million.
  6. Arts, entertainment, and recreation industry: 1.3 million
  7. Government employment: 980,000
  8. Durable goods manufacturing: 914,000
  9. Temporary Help Services: 842,000
  10. Accommodation industry: 839,000
  11. Local government: 801,000
  12. Personal and laundry services: 797,000
  13. Clothing and clothing accessories stores: 740,000
  14. Specialty trade contractors: 691,000
  15. Transportation and warehousing: 584,000
  16. Offices of dentists: 503,000
  17. Private education: 457,000
  18. Nondurable goods manufacturing: 416,000 jobs
