THE RUSSIAN WORLD

The “Russian World” is an imagined community defined in national and cultural terms to include both Russians in Russia and their “Russian-speaking compatriots” abroad. The concept consciously relativizes the borders between nations states and is used to justify the “protective” role of the Russian Federation toward Russian-speaking minorities abroad, especially in the states of the former Soviet Union.

UZBEKISTAN AND THE WAR IN UKRAINE

Russia’s war in Ukraine has become an existential geopolitical challenge for all former Soviet republics. Uzbekistan’s formulation and expression of a position on the war has been difficult in an ethical and political sense. Positioning on this matter is also a serious test for the strategic partnership and unity of Central Asian states.

REVERSING THE DECLINE IN U.S. DEMOCRACY

The resilience of US democracy is being put to the test. Undemocratic forces in the United States have engaged in their own efforts to undermine institutions that are designed to check their power and protect the rights of all Americans. To reignite the promise of US democracy and safeguard their freedoms and long-term interests, Americans must rise above partisan divisions, renew their shared commitment to fundamental democratic principles, and bolster rules and structures that maximize the common good.

FLAWS AND DEFICIENCIES OF DEMOCRACY IN THE U.S.

Over the years, democracy in the US has become alienated and degenerated, and it has increasingly deviated from the essence of democracy and its original design. Problems like money politics, identity politics, wrangling between political parties, political polarization, social division, racial tension and wealth gap have become more acute. All this has weakened the functioning of democracy in the US.

1. American-style democracy has become “a game of money politics”

TENSIONS BETWEEN BRUSSELS AND LONDON LOOMING

Contrary to popular belief, the Brexit deal is certainly not done. The situation in Northern Ireland remains unstable and British relations with their European Union counterparts are extremely poor. Liss Truss the new PM will have to decide whether she intends to remain hardline on all matters regarding Brexit and risk the consequences, or take a softer line, angering the Brexiteer base and, well, risk the consequences.
