10 REASONS FOR APPOINTING MR. ROMNEY AS U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE

  1. There could be no better ambassador for America’s national interests than the former Governor. His appointment would signal to the world that Washington’s brand remains intact. World leaders know former Governor Romney as a man of his word, as someone who understands global issues. His preparation for multiple presidential runs ensures he has a strong grasp of the challenges America has faced over a long stretch of time. He also has a wealth of key former staffers he can turn to for advice and counsel at a moment's notice.
  2. Mr. Romney would help relax tensions abroad as well as at home. He has international credibility and a sophisticated understanding of complex global relationships.
  3. Mr. Romney is well versed in areas of international finance and economics.
  4. The fact that Mr.Trump has admired Vladimir Putin’s strength as a leader and has indicated a preference for working with Russia to defeat the Islamic State isn’t in conflict with Mr. Romney’s recognition of Mr. Putin and Russia as threats to U.S. national interests. In fact, they can be seen as complementing each other’s perspectives with a balance of respect and caution informed by history.
  5. On China, Mr. Romney and  Mr. Trump probably agree more than not. Again, during his own presidential run Mr. Romney spoke often of clamping down on China’s currency manipulation.
  6. Mr. Romney is the son of George Romney who in addition to being Governor of Michigan was President of American Motors Corp. and likely agrees with Mr. Trump that the U.S. needs to create incentives for businesses to invest more in American jobs.
  7. Mr. Romney is an experienced deal-maker, a skill Mr.Trump admires.
  8. Mr. Romney is very articulate and fluent in policy (as well as French),
  9. Mr. Romney is a cool thinker and, not insignificantly is not a drinker also like Mr. Trump.
  10. Mr. Romney not least is by all accounts a thoroughly decent human being.

Mr. Romney’s views on foreign policy is based on four ‘core principles’:

  1. Speaking and acting with clarity and resolve,
  2. Promoting open markets, representative government, and respect for human rights,
  3. Applying the full spectrum of U.S. hard and soft power to influence events before they erupt into conflict, and
  4. Exercising U.S. leadership in multilateral organizations and alliances, but with the stipulation that the U.S. always reserves the right to act alone to protect its national interests.”
